Jaipur, June 30 (IANS) Family members of slain dacoit Jagan Gurjar staged a sit-in outside the mortuary of JLN Hospital in Ajmer on Tuesday, refusing to accept his body and demanding a CBI probe into his murder inside the high-security Ajmer jail.
Jagan’s son, Asaram Gurjar, alleged that his father’s killing was the result of a larger conspiracy and warned of consequences if the family’s demands were ignored.
“I am Jagan Gurjar’s flesh and blood. I know how to kill, whether by entering someone’s house or inside a jail. The government will have to answer for this,” Asaram said while addressing the protest.
He said the family would continue the sit-in until their demands were met. Asaram also claimed that his father had never mentioned any serious enmity with fellow inmate Vishnu, who has been accused of the murder.
Asaram demanded a CBI investigation into the murder and sought enhanced security for his uncle, Pappu Gurjar, who is lodged in the same Ajmer jail. According to him, Pappu has faced threats to his life for the past two years and should be immediately shifted to Dholpur Jail. He further claimed that he, too, faces a threat to his life and has sought security from the administration.
Jagan Gurjar’s associate, Prahlad Singh, alleged that the murder could not have been carried out by a single individual and hinted at the possible involvement of influential political figures. He demanded that Pappu Gurjar be transferred to Dholpur Jail and his statement recorded as part of a CBI investigation, claiming it could reveal what transpired inside the prison.
“If a person can be murdered inside one of the country’s most secure prisons, serious questions arise about prison security,” Singh said.
Asaram also appealed to supporters through social media to gather at the protest site in large numbers. In an emotional post, he wrote, “So sad, miss you Papa ji…” while urging people to join the demonstration outside JLN Hospital.
Jagan Gurjar was allegedly murdered inside Ajmer High-Security Jail on Monday, June 29. Police suspect that Vishnu, an accused in the Kuldeep Jaghina murder case, strangled Gurjar with a towel inside their barrack.
According to officials, both inmates were lodged together in Cell No. 5, Block No. 4, Ward No. 2. When the barrack was opened during the routine afternoon unlock on Monday, Vishnu reportedly walked out smiling and allegedly told jail authorities that he had killed Jagan.
Jail staff found Gurjar unconscious inside the cell, and doctors later declared him dead. The incident has triggered questions over security arrangements inside the high-security prison, with the family insisting that only an independent investigation can uncover the full truth.
