Bhopal, April 10 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Friday said that the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Campaign will be linked with the state government’s ‘Krishak Kalyan Varsh’ (Farmer Welfare Year) to strengthen water conservation efforts and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

Addressing a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence, Dr Yadav said that the campaign is currently being implemented across Madhya Pradesh with a focus on constructing water structures and reviving dried water sources through recharge. He emphasised that farmers are among the primary beneficiaries of these initiatives.

“The Jal Ganga Samvardhan Campaign will undoubtedly support the objectives of Krishak Kalyan Varsh. It should be linked through joint activities and collective efforts,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.

Highlighting the importance of farmers, Yadav described them as the backbone of the state’s traditions and the foundation of a secure future.

“Farmers not only produce food for their families but for the entire society. It is our responsibility to bring joy and celebration into the lives of these Annadatas,” he said while addressing the review meeting at his residence.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also reviewed preparations for ‘Agriculture Lokarang–2026’, calling it a key initiative under the Farmer Welfare Year.

He directed officials to ensure that the event becomes a vibrant celebration of farmers’ lives, traditions and agricultural culture.

Yadav said progressive farmers should be honoured during the event and provided detailed information on advanced agricultural technologies, organic and natural farming, water conservation and crop diversification.

He also urged farmers to avoid burning crop residue.

To increase participation, the Chief Minister suggested organising activities such as an agriculture quiz competition. Winners from each district could be awarded useful agricultural resources, including tractors and other incentives.

He further stressed the need to promote Agriculture Lokarang in rural areas and to showcase local products, handicrafts and agriculture-based industries, enabling farmers to connect with markets.

Yadav also directed that Agriculture Lokarang be linked with local fairs organised by urban and rural bodies, allowing wider outreach and engagement.

“Through these fairs, farmers and the general public can be informed in an engaging manner about government initiatives,” he said.

Emphasising sustainable practices, the Chief Minister said farmers adopting natural farming and successfully marketing such products should be honoured at state events, including Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations.
