Jamshedpur, April 9 (IANS) A young man riding a motorcycle died in a road accident on Thursday near Bhuiyandih Golchakkar under the Sitaramdera police station area in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, triggering protests by angry locals who blocked the road and demanded stricter safety measures.

The deceased has been identified as Sudip Roy, a resident of Mango. According to initial reports, Roy was employed at Lifeline Nursing Home and was returning to his workplace after lunch when an unidentified heavy vehicle hit his motorcycle with great force. The impact was so severe that he died on the spot.

The incident sparked widespread outrage among local residents, who gathered at the accident site and staged a protest against the administration. Demonstrators blocked the road, disrupting traffic movement for a considerable period. Locals alleged that the Bhuiyandih Golchakkar area has witnessed several serious accidents in the past, but authorities have failed to implement effective measures to prevent such incidents.

Protesters demanded immediate steps to improve road safety and stricter enforcement against overspeeding heavy vehicles. They also urged the administration to take long-term measures to ensure the safety of commuters in the area.

Upon receiving information about the protest, Dhalbhum Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Arnab Mishra, along with a police team, rushed to the spot. Officials engaged with the agitating residents and assured them that necessary steps would be taken to address their concerns. Following the assurance, the protesters agreed to lift the blockade, and normal traffic movement was gradually restored.

Police have taken custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. The victim’s family has been informed about the incident.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to identify the vehicle involved in the accident and take appropriate legal action. Authorities said efforts are underway to trace the driver of the unidentified heavy vehicle.
