Srinagar, June 15 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Monday that there is no change in the proposed statehood restoration protests and that these demonstrations will be held to remind the Prime Minister of his commitment.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an official function here on Monday, Omar Abdullah said that the Jammu and Kashmir government’s plan to push for the restoration of statehood remains unchanged, adding that National Conference leaders will visit Delhi during the Monsoon Session of Parliament to remind the Centre of its commitment.

“There is no change in our plan. We will raise the issue and go to Delhi to register our message at Jantar Mantar. The promise made to the people in the Supreme Court, Parliament and public forums must be honoured,” Omar Abdullah said.

Referring to his recent meeting with the Prime Minister, he said discussions covered statehood, Jammu and Kashmir’s financial position and ways to accelerate development works.

“We discussed statehood, the financial condition of J&K and expediting development projects. I hope people will benefit from these discussions,” PM Modi said.

On the reservation issue, the Chief Minister said the proposal is awaiting Cabinet approval after the Centre sought clarifications.

“The Cabinet Sub-Committee report was approved and sent to the Lieutenant Governor, who referred it to Delhi. Certain queries were raised by the Centre and the replies have been prepared.

“A Cabinet meeting will be held shortly to clear the response,” he said.

On Muharram preparations, he said the administration has been reviewing arrangements for over a month to ensure smooth observance.

Welcoming pilgrims for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Omar expressed hope for a peaceful and successful pilgrimage.

“We welcome all pilgrims and hope the Yatra concludes safely,” he said.

It may be recalled that during the seven-hour-long meeting of ruling National Conference (NC) legislators and MPs at Dachigam National Park, the party decided that its legislators would stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on the first day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session to press for statehood and the restoration of constitutional guarantees to J&K.
