Srinagar, June 15 (IANS) A police constable in J&K’s Anantnag district was felicitated on Monday for tracing three minor missing girls and reuniting them with their families.

SSP, Anantnag, Ashok Amod Nagpure, felicitated Constable Fayaz Ahmad for his role in tracing three missing minor girls whose disappearance had triggered widespread concern in the district, a police statement said.

The recognition comes days after the three girls, who had gone missing from the Nunwani area of Brakpora, were successfully traced and reunited with their families, ending nearly 24 hours of anxiety and uncertainty.

Police said Constable Fayaz Ahmad played a significant role in the operation that ultimately led to the safe tracing of the girls from Cafeteria Park in Achabal.

The disappearance of the minors had prompted an intensive search operation involving police teams and local volunteers, with concern mounting as the girls remained untraceable for several hours.

The successful recovery brought relief to the families and area residents, while also drawing appreciation for the efforts of the police personnel involved in the search.

During the felicitation, SSP Nagpure commended the dedication, alertness and professionalism displayed by the constable and emphasised the importance of prompt action in cases involving missing children.

Police officials said the recognition was aimed at encouraging personnel who demonstrate exceptional commitment while discharging their duties and serving the public.

The recovery of the girls was widely welcomed in the district, where residents had closely followed the search efforts before the children were found safe.

The Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Police balances its primary duties of maintaining law and order with a broad array of civic and social responsibilities. These initiatives focus on youth engagement, public health, community welfare, and support for vulnerable groups, the statement said.

For youth engagement, J&K Police operates libraries and organises sports events, debates, and cultural activities to provide constructive outlets and steer local youth away from illicit activities.

In the public health sector, local police conduct medical and maternity camps, as well as provide mobile dispensaries for remote, underserved areas.

For providing basic amenities, J&K Police is facilitating the setup of hand pumps, low-cost water supplies, and public sanitation facilities in rural villages and selected schools.

In the education sector, the police runs its own public schools for children with highly trained teachers. J&K Police also distribute free study materials (notebooks, pens), textbooks, and school uniforms to underprivileged children.
