Chandigarh, June 14 (IANS) Making yet another breakthrough in the 30 kg heroin seizure case, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested two more accused, including a juvenile, and recovered an additional 5.041 kg heroin, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

Those arrested have been identified as Abhishek, a resident of Chheharta in Amritsar, and one Juvenile. The accused has a criminal background, with previous cases registered against him under the Arms Act, the NDPS Act, snatching and assault-related offences.

The development comes close on the heels of the arrest of six individuals — Gautam, Kabir, Sameer, Gurpreet and two juveniles– after recovering 30.045 kg of heroin from their possession last week.

DGP Yadav said the investigation has revealed that the accused were linked to a Dubai-based smuggler who was facilitating the supply of heroin consignments from across the border.

Further investigation is underway to identify other associates involved in the network, trace the financial trail, and uncover possible hawala connections, he said.

Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, acting on linkages established during the investigation, the police have recovered an additional 2.006 kg heroin from the possession of the arrested accused Kabir and also arrested his two associates on his disclosure statement.

In a separate operation, police teams received information regarding an accident involving one of the operatives of this module, identified as Vanshdeep Singh, as mentioned by the arrested accused Abhishek, he said, adding that, acting swiftly, the police reached the spot and took the injured person to the hospital.

Bhullar said during the search of his scooter, police recovered 3.035 kg of heroin. The investigation has revealed that the accused, Vanshdeep Singh, had been released on bail from Central Jail in Amritsar on February 2, 2025. He said the accused would be formally arrested after being declared fit by the doctors.

The Police Commissioner said the Dubai-based smuggler, who is already wanted in three major NDPS cases, used to share the drop locations with the accused, who, along with their associates, would retrieve the consignments from the designated spots and further distribute them to various recipients.
