Bengaluru, April 27 (IANS) The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by a man accused of filming obscene videos of women on Namma Metro trains and uploading them on social media, strongly reprimanding him for his actions. ​

Rapping the accused, the court questioned him about what kind of person he is to have committed such an act.​

The accused, identified as Digant B.K., had approached the High Court seeking the quashing of criminal proceedings initiated against him. The case was registered by Banashankari police in 2025 after it was found that he had allegedly recorded inappropriate videos of women passengers and shared them on an Instagram account titled “Bengaluru Metro Chicks.”​

A bench headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna rejected the petition and expressed strong displeasure at the accused’s conduct.

The court remarked that he recorded obscene videos of women from the front and back and uploaded them on Instagram, questioning what kind of person he is and adding that such acts do not allow women to feel safe anywhere, and asking whether he felt ashamed.​

The court made it clear that such acts cannot be trivialised on technical grounds. Responding to the defence argument that no individual victim had filed a complaint and that the case was registered suo motu by the police, the bench said that serious offences cannot be dismissed merely on technicalities.​

The bench observed that in such grave matters, one cannot escape by citing technical aspects alone and that there are situations where morality and safety take precedence over technical arguments, adding that it is time to put a stop to such defences.​

The bench further questioned how filming women without their consent in an obscene manner and uploading such content on social media could be considered anything other than a criminal act, before dismissing the petition.​

According to the police, the accused had posted at least 14 such videos on the Instagram page. He was arrested by Banashankari police in May 2025.​

The account reportedly had over 6,000 followers on Instagram and more than 1,000 subscribers on Telegram.​

A case has been registered against him under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 78(2) and 238(c), along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The matter is currently pending before an Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Bengaluru.​
