Ahmedabad, June 20 (IANS) The Ahmedabad City Police has put in place extensive security and traffic management arrangements for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG re-examination scheduled on June 21, with more than 10,000 candidates expected to appear across 23 examination centres in the city.

According to officials, 10,445 students will sit for the examination at 23 centres. Security arrangements have been made in accordance with guidelines issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is conducting the nationwide re-test.

The examination will be held from 2 P.M. to 5:15 P.M. On Saturday, the NTA has also conducted a nationwide mock drill ahead of the examination to test preparedness and ensure smooth conduct of the re-test.

Police said six Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), officers from 15 police station jurisdictions and their staff will remain on duty throughout the examination period.

In addition, all Station House Officers (SHOs) and personnel from 14 traffic police stations will be deployed to regulate traffic and ensure candidates can reach their examination centres without inconvenience.

Special monitoring arrangements have been established at the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner’s Control Room, where CCTV cameras located around all 23 examination centres will be monitored live.

Moving CCTV surveillance units will also be deployed outside the centres, while eight drones will conduct aerial surveillance in surrounding areas.

Police escorts and security cover will be provided for the transportation of question papers to examination centres.

PSI-rank officers have been appointed as nodal officers at every centre, and a detailed briefing of the deployment has been conducted for all personnel involved in the operation.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch will deploy Quick Response Teams (QRTs), while the Cyber Crime Branch will monitor social media platforms throughout the examination period.

The city’s social media cell will also remain active to prevent the spread of rumours, misinformation or any content that could create panic among candidates or the public.

Addressing the preparations, DCP (Control Room) Reema Munshi said: “Ahmedabad City Police is fully prepared with comprehensive security arrangements for the NEET re-examination. There are 23 examination centres in Ahmedabad city and approximately 10,445 students will appear for the examination. Six DCPs, personnel from 15 police station jurisdictions and their staff will remain on duty as part of the security arrangements.”

She added: “All SHOs and staff from 14 traffic police stations will regulate traffic adequately and ensure that students face no inconvenience in reaching any of the 23 examination centres. The Crime Branch has deployed QRTs, and surveillance around examination centres will be conducted through eight drones.”

The Police Commissioner has also issued a notification directing photocopy centres in the vicinity of examination centres to remain closed during the examination period.

The NEET UG 2026 re-examination is being conducted nationwide after the original test held on May 3 was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak.

The re-test is being conducted under enhanced security protocols and revised examination procedures announced by the NTA and the Ministry of Education.

More than 22 lakh candidates are expected to participate across the country.
