Kolkata, July 14 (IANS) A major reshuffle took place in the state police administration on Tuesday, with the Suvendu Adhikari government transferring 33 IPS officers and appointing a new state intelligence chief.

The most notable of them is the transfer of IPS officer Supratim Sarkar. He has been transferred from the post of ADG, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), i.e., the state’s intelligence chief, to the relatively less responsible post of ADG, Telecommunications.

Natarajan Ramesh Babu has been made the state’s new intelligence chief. He has been the Director General of Correctional Services until now.

The notification of the latest police reshuffle was issued from the state secretariat, Nabanna, on Tuesday afternoon.

It may be noted that the Election Commission had removed Supratim Sarkar from the post of Kolkata Police Commissioner after the announcement of the 2026 Assembly elections in March. He was made ADG of CID. Later, he was also given the responsibility of a police observer in another state and was deputed to serve in five Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, among the transferred IPS officers is K. Jayaraman. He has been transferred from ADG, North Bengal Region, to the post of Director, Directorate of Economic Offences. Jayaraman, known as an honest officer, has been posted as the Director of Economic Offences to investigate financial corruption during the Trinamool Congress era.

IPS officer Vishal Garg has been transferred from the post of ADG, Western Zone, to the post of ADG, Intelligence Bureau (IB). Skilled officer Praveen Kumar Tripathi, who was the IG of the Special Task Force (STF), has been transferred to the less important Home Guard division, where he has become the IG.

Meanwhile, Tripurari Atharv has been removed from the post of Bidhannagar Police Commissioner. He has been made the ADG, Traffic and Road Safety.

IPS officer Rathod Amitkumar Bharat has become the new Commissioner of Police of Bidhannagar.

Meanwhile, two Additional SPs of Baruipur have also been removed. Pinaki Dutta has been removed as Additional SP (Zonal) of Baruipur Police District. In his place, Atish Biswas has been given the responsibility

It may be noted that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had questioned the role of the police in the recent rape and murder incident of a minor in Baruipur. Questions were raised about why the officers were late in reaching the crime spot.
