A man involved in a domestic dispute with a 16-year-old boy who was shot by police in Ipswich, west of Brisbane, has been charged with assault.
Officers fired two shots at the 16-year-old, striking him once in the chest, after he allegedly charged at them with a knife at a home in Springfield on Wednesday.
The boy and the man cannot be named for legal reasons.
Police were initially called to the home as a result of a domestic incident about 2:30pm.
On Friday morning, police charged a 43-year-old man with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is due to face the Ipswich Magistrates Court later on Friday.
The injured boy was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane with non-life threatening injuries.
As with all police shootings, the case is now being examined by the Ethical Standards Command.
However the Queensland Police Union and Police Commissioner Ian Stewart have defended the officers’ actions.
