Man trafficking drugs from MP to Maharashtra sentenced to five years jail

Bhopal, Jan 15 (IANS) A Special NDPS court in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday sentenced an inter-state drug trafficker to five years’ rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 50,000, a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) statement said.

The special court in Dewas held Vivek Kumar Singh, a resident of Pune, guilty under Sections 8(C) and 20 of the NDPS Act,1985, and pronounced the sentence, the statement said.

The case dates to March 31, 2024, when officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Indore Zone, intercepted a bus travelling from Bhopal to Pune, at Dewas Toll Plaza, Bypass Road.

During a check, Singh, son of Jamuna Prasad, was arrested along with 675 grams of charas. A case was registered under CR No. 05/2024, the NCB said.

During the investigation, it was found that the seized charas was sourced from Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu and was to be taken to Pune, a statement said.

A complaint in this matter was filed before the Special NDPS Court, Dewas, on May 14, 2024.

On Thursday, the Court convicted the accused and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 8(C) and 20 of the NDPS Act,1985.

In a separate case, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Bhopal Zonal Unit, secured a 15-year jail term, along with a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh each, from the special NDPS court in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen for two convicts involved in inter-state drug trafficking.

Zakir, son of Shabir Shah, resident of Gandhi Nagar, Bhopal, and Liyakat Ali, son of Sharafat Ali, resident of Arjun Nagar, Bhopal, were arrested on December 29, 2022, while they were carrying 109.150 kg ganja in a car, the ED said.

During the investigation, it was found that the seized ganja was sourced from Odisha’s Sonepur and was to be taken to Bhopal.
