Mayawati issues strict directions to office-bearers as BSP enters election mode in Uttarakhand

Lucknow/Dehradun, May 26 (IANS) With preparations underway for the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttarakhand, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has stepped up efforts to strengthen its organisation in the hill state.

BSP chief Mayawati on Tuesday held a review meeting with key office-bearers of the Uttarakhand unit at the party’s central office in Lucknow and issued a series of organisational and election-related instructions.

During the meeting, Mayawati stressed that, as in Uttar Pradesh, the selection of candidates in Uttarakhand should be done with utmost care, giving priority to those who are active at the grassroots and have strong public acceptance. She directed party leaders to further strengthen the organisation down to the booth level and remain prepared to counter the political strategies of rival parties.

Reviewing the party’s progress in the state, the BSP chief described the organisational feedback as largely satisfactory, but said preparations needed to be intensified further ahead of the polls. She underlined the importance of reaching out to people who, she said, were facing neglect and insecurity under the current government.

Referring to the period before Uttarakhand was carved out as a separate state from Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati said concerns related to political and developmental neglect had long existed in the region. She claimed that during the BSP government, several administrative and welfare-focused measures were taken to address issues affecting the people of Uttarakhand.

She also laid emphasis on expanding the party’s outreach among Dalits, tribals, backward classes, Muslims and other minority communities, along with economically weaker sections from upper castes.

Mayawati said the BSP would work to strengthen political participation and representation of the “Bahujan Samaj” through small meetings and wider public outreach programmes across the state.

Reiterating the party’s ideological stand, she said the BSP believes in politics centred on public welfare rather than the influence of wealth and big capital. She urged party workers to strengthen the organisation with full dedication and commitment, calling it the party’s biggest strength.
