Strong turnout and rising women’s participation highlight community spirit

Melbourne, April 12 (Australia India News Newsdesk)

The Telugu Association of Australia Inc. (TAAI) concluded its Table Tennis Tournament 2025–26 in Melbourne, drawing enthusiastic participation and showcasing a strong spirit of sportsmanship within the community.

The tournament featured competitive matches across multiple categories, with participants, volunteers, and umpires contributing to the smooth and successful conduct of the event. Organisers noted the growing interest in sporting activities among community members.

A key highlight of this year’s tournament was the increased participation of women, with seven players competing, reflecting a positive trend towards inclusivity and greater engagement in sports initiatives.

Special appreciation was extended to Sahitya Pidaparthi for her leadership in organising the event, along with community members and partners who supported the logistics and execution.

In the juniors category, Charith Yandrapally secured first place, followed by Daeshim Siddharth as runner-up. In the women’s category, Sahitya Pidaparthi emerged as the winner, with Shashikala Avula finishing second. In the men’s category, Maruthi Siva Prasad VM claimed the title, while Charith Yandrapally was the runner-up. Roohika Pothana was recognised as the special winner in the girls category.

The event underscored the role of community-driven sports programmes in promoting healthy competition, inclusivity, and stronger social connections.
