Mizoram govt aims to gradually transform state into a digital hub

Aizawl, May 14 (IANS) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday said the state government is committed to progressively transforming Mizoram into a digital state by leveraging modern technology to make public services more accessible, efficient and convenient for citizens.

Launching the Government Quarters Allotment Management System (QAMS) and the Mizoram House (outside the state) Online Reservation System, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to gradually transform Mizoram into a digitally enabled state.

The systems, managed under the General Administration Department (GAD), are aimed at digitising the process of government quarters allotment and reservations for Mizoram Houses in Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and Mumbai.

Lalduhoma said applications for government quarters had previously been processed manually through the submission of physical documents, with records maintained on individual computer systems.

The management of vacant quarters and changes arising from retirements or deaths had also been handled manually, often causing inconvenience and consuming considerable time for both the department concerned and applicants.

With the introduction of the online system, applicants will no longer need to visit offices in person to obtain and submit forms, as the entire process can now be completed conveniently through the internet.

He added that the new system would also significantly reduce the workload of officials managing the process.

Similarly, the Mizoram House Online Reservation System will enable people to make reservations online without the need to visit offices physically.

The Chief Minister noted that the initiative would be particularly beneficial for people residing outside Aizawl.

The QAMS has been under development since August last year by the ICT Department and is now fully operational.

Addressing the Mizoram Fish Farmers’ Meet organised by the Fisheries Department, the Chief Minister said Mizoram has an estimated 24,000 hectares suitable for fish farming, of which fish ponds have so far been developed in only around 6,000 hectares — nearly 25 per cent of the total potential area.

He noted that one of the major challenges in fish production in Mizoram is the limited number of ponds and inadequate storage facilities.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that the state’s fish productivity per hectare remains low.

He stressed that increasing fish productivity from existing ponds should now become a priority, even if new ponds cannot immediately be developed.

Lalduhoma emphasised the need for fish farmers to adopt modern technologies and scientific practices in fish farming, including proper pond management, fish healthcare and feeding practices, to improve productivity and profitability.

He said the state government is actively working to enhance fish production through various schemes such as the Blue Revolution, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Bana Kaih (Handholding) scheme.

The Chief Minister added that preparations and action plans have already been finalised in anticipation of the launch of PMMSY 2.0.
