Chennai, June 23 (IANS) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast moderate rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next two days, even as temperatures in the State capital are expected to remain high, touching around 38 degrees Celsius.

According to the latest weather bulletin, moderate rainfall is likely in the Western Ghats districts, parts of northern Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory regions of Puducherry and Karaikal on Tuesday.

The department has also predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms at one or two places across Tamil Nadu on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meteorologists said atmospheric conditions remain favourable for scattered rainfall activity in various parts of the State.

Districts along the Western Ghats are expected to receive the most significant rainfall, while isolated areas elsewhere may witness brief spells of showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.

The weather office has also warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall on June 25 in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Ranipet districts.

On June 26, heavy rain is likely in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts.

Officials said the rainfall activity is being closely monitored as evolving weather systems continue to influence conditions across the State.

Residents in districts likely to receive heavy rainfall have been advised to stay updated with local weather alerts and exercise caution during thunderstorm activity.

For Chennai, the forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with the possibility of moderate rainfall in some parts of the city. While intermittent showers may provide temporary relief from the heat, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist.

The Meteorological Department said maximum temperatures in Chennai are likely to remain around 38 degrees Celsius for the next two days.

Combined with high humidity levels, the weather could feel particularly uncomfortable during the afternoon hours. Authorities have advised people to remain hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours, and follow official weather advisories as rainfall and temperature conditions continue to fluctuate across Tamil Nadu.
