MP BJP issues show-cause notice to MLA Pritam Lodhi, warns of action

Bhopal/Pichhore, April 22 (IANS) The Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to Pichhore MLA Pritam Singh Lodhi for his alleged abusive and threatening remarks against a police officer, asking him to explain his conduct within three days or face disciplinary action.

“The conduct displayed by you recently is highly objectionable. Your behaviour is not in conformity with party discipline; therefore, you are required to submit your explanation within three days, failing which disciplinary action will be initiated against you,” a circular issued by State BJP President Hemant Khandelwal said.

The significant development came a day after the Indian Police Service (IPS) Association’s Madhya Pradesh unit strongly condemned Lodhi’s remarks and demanded strict action against him.

In a statement on Tuesday, the IPS Association said several videos of the MLA had gone viral on social media, in which he could be heard issuing warnings and making derogatory remarks against Karera Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Ayush Jakhar.

It said the comments were directed not only at the officer but also at his family, terming the conduct a serious breach of public decorum.

Madhya Pradesh IPS Association President Chanchal Shekhar has said that such behaviour was unbecoming of a public representative and damages the morale of the entire administrative system.

The controversy began after a road accident in Shivpuri district in which a Thar SUV car allegedly driven by the MLA’s son, Dinesh Lodhi, hit five people on April 16 in Pichhore in Gwalior-Chambal region.

Dinesh Lodhi reportedly claimed that he had sounded a siren and asked why people did not move aside, drawing criticism.

Following the incident, the MLA expressed anger over police action, alleging that his son was being unfairly targeted and that instructions had come from Delhi.

He claimed the police seized the vehicle, called his son to the police station and later stopped him from returning.

In multiple viral videos, Pritam Singh Lodhi is seen warning SDOP Ayush Jakhar that if he did not “act properly” within 15 days, he would gather a large crowd and march to his residence, even threatening to “fill his house with cow dung”.

In another remark, the BJP MLA said “Karera does not belong to your daddy” and asserted that his son would remain free to move and even contest elections, while challenging the police to take action.

In a separate video, Pritam Singh Lodhi is also heard issuing an open warning that he would mobilise thousands of supporters, a statement widely seen as an attempt to display muscle power.

Reports also said he had earlier threatened Shivpuri Superintendent of Police Aman Singh Rathore during a public interaction.

The BJP’s notice is being seen as a step to address the controversy amid mounting criticism and concerns over the MLA’s remarks.
