Bhopal, July 2 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday congratulated state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal on completing one year in office, praising his leadership and contribution to strengthening the party organisation.

In a message, the Chief Minister said Khandelwal’s simplicity, dedication to the organisation and efficient working style had inspired party workers.

“Under your leadership, the organisation has scaled new heights over the past year, and our ideology has been further strengthened,” Yadav said while extending his best wishes.

Senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya also congratulated Khandelwal on the occasion.

Vijayvargiya said Khandelwal’s disciplined work style, organisational skills and experience had brought new energy to the party. “I am fully confident that under your guidance, the organisation will continue to reach new heights,” he said, wishing him good health and continued success.

Khandelwal took over as the Madhya Pradesh BJP president in July last year, succeeding V. D. Sharma, who had led the party’s state unit for over four years along with continuing as a Lok Sabha MP from Khajuraho.

During his tenure, Khandelwal introduced several organisational initiatives, including regular interactions between Cabinet ministers and party workers and a system to directly engage with workers whenever controversies involving party members arose.

He also played an active role in defending the party during politically sensitive issues.

Recently, when the opposition targeted Chief Minister Mohan Yadav over allegations related to a land purchase, Khandelwal was the first BJP leader to defend him.

Khandelwal comes from a family with a long association with the party. He is the son of late Vijay Khandelwal, a founding member of the BJP who represented the erstwhile Betul Lok Sabha constituency four times.

Hemant Khandelwal was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2008 bypoll and later entered state politics after the Betul parliamentary seat became reserved for Scheduled Tribes following delimitation.

He was elected as an MLA in 2013 and also served as the BJP’s state treasurer before taking over as the party’s state president on July 2, 2025.
