Jabalpur, June 6 (IANS) A drug racket involving medical representatives was busted by the Jabalpur Police, with 6,600 intoxicating injections seized and six persons arrested, police said on Saturday.

The accused were buying injections from Uttar Pradesh at cheap rates and selling them to addicts in Jabalpur for up to Rs 500 per dose.

Police said the main supplier is still on the run.

The operation began after Belbagh Station House Officer (SHO) Jitendra Patkar received a tip-off that a major consignment of drug injections had reached Jabalpur by bus from Uttar Pradesh via Rewa, Satna and Katni.

Jabalpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Sampat Upadhyay formed a team under Assistant Superintendent of Police (Crime) Jitendra Singh.

Near Ramlila Ground, police stopped an e-rickshaw and arrested Durga Patel (46). He tried to escape but was caught.

Police recovered 3,200 injections from his e-rickshaw — 1,200 vials of Avil and 2,000 vials of Talgesic, worth Rs 80,800.

During questioning, Durga Patel told police the stock was meant for Mohammad Arif and was sent by Amjad Khan.

Police then raided Bhantalaiya Badhai Mohalla Road and arrested Mohammad Arif (32), and Amjad Khan, 48, both from Jabalpur.

Their questioning led to the arrest of two medical representatives — Sayyad Ashraf Ali (39), and Saurabh Namdev (45).

Police said Saurabh Namdev sourced the injections from Uttar Pradesh and supplied them through Amjad Khan.

Another accused, Saurabh Sonkar, is absconding.

In a separate operation, Adhartal police arrested Gitanshu Sahu (25) in the Milk Scheme area with four sacks. He was carrying 3,400 injections — 2,300 Avil and 1,100 Talgesic.

“These people mixed Avil and Buprenorphine injections and sold them to drug addicts for Rs 300 to Rs 500. Medical representatives were also part of this network. Six people have been arrested so far,” Assistant Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh said briefing the press on Saturday.

Police also seized an e-rickshaw and five mobile phones.

Cases have been filed under the Madhya Pradesh Drugs Control Act and the NDPS Act.
