Bhopal, May 11 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh will accelerate police recruitment and roll out new welfare measures for personnel, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Monday, declaring that the state has eliminated Naxalism after a decades-long fight.

Addressing the K.F. Rustamji Awards Distribution Ceremony at Ravindra Bhawan in Bhopal, Yadav said the state government is expediting recruitment so more youth can join the force and strengthen public safety and law and order.

He said recruitment processes for 2023 and 2024 have been completed. A fresh drive for 2026 will soon begin to fill posts from constables to Sub-Inspectors.

The government has set a target to fill 22,500 vacancies in the police force, he added.

On welfare, the Chief Minister said the state is working with the Housing Board and other agencies to provide eligible police personnel with housing in their home districts.

“Police personnel always remain dedicated to society’s safety. Therefore, ensuring their welfare and personal well-being is the responsibility of the state government,” Yadav said.

Yadav noted that the nature of crime is changing, with cyber and digital offences creating new challenges.

He said Madhya Pradesh Police has handled these challenges with efficiency and professionalism, earning a distinct identity through courage, discipline, and dedication despite difficult circumstances.

Referring to Left-wing extremism, the Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh has emerged victorious in its battle against Naxalism.

“Under the leadership of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, decisive action was taken against Naxalism, which had remained a challenge for the country for decades. Madhya Pradesh has now bid a final farewell to ‘Lal Salaam’,” he added.

Director General of Police Kailash Makwana said the state achieved the milestone of becoming Naxalism-free on December 11, 2025.

Makwana said constable recruitment has been completed, and newly selected personnel are receiving joining orders.

He further stated that preparations for Simhastha 2028 are underway, with emphasis on training and strengthening grassroots policing.

During the ceremony, Yadav distributed K.F. Rustamji Awards for 2019-20 and 2021-22.

A total of 101 police personnel were honoured, with seven receiving ‘Param Vishisht’, eight ‘Ati Vishisht’, and 86 ‘Vishisht’ awards.

K.F. Rustamji was the founding Director General of the Border Security Force and played a key role in tackling dacoity in central India. He was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to policing and public service.
