Bhopal, April 1 (IANS) With the fresh academic year 2026-27 for schoolchildren underway, an online lottery for free admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in private schools in Madhya Pradesh will be conducted on April 2.

According to the government, approximately 178,714 eligible children have been included in this process. These children will secure admission to 122,551 seats available across around 22,000 private schools in Madhya Pradesh.

The lottery will be broadcast live on the State Education Centre’s YouTube channel. After the lottery, parents can view the school allotted to their child on the RTE portal and proceed with the admission process.

The education department will also send information regarding the allotted school via text message to registered mobile numbers.

The initiative aims to provide children from economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups an opportunity to study in recognised private institutions without any financial burden.

According to officials from the education department, the lottery process will be conducted in a transparent, fully digital manner to eliminate any scope for bias or manual intervention.

Under the RTE Act, 25 per cent of seats in private unaided schools are reserved for children belonging to economically weaker sections.

The state government reimburses the school fees for these students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to quality education.

This year, a large number of applications were received from across the state, reflecting increasing awareness among parents of the scheme’s benefits.

Officials stated that all necessary preparations for the lottery have been completed, including verification of applications and digitisation of records.

The state’s school education department has also urged parents to keep their application details ready to check results promptly.

Selected candidates will be required to complete the admission process within the stipulated timeframe by submitting the required documents.

The move is expected to benefit thousands of students and promote inclusivity in the education system.
