Bhopal, April 8 (IANS) As wheat procurement begins from April 9 in Madhya Pradesh, a significant surge in farmer participation is reported for the 2026-27 season, with 1,904,644 farmers registering across the state, a notable increase from 1,544,055 registrations in the previous 2025-26 season.

To facilitate smooth procurement, the state government has established 3,627 procurement centres. Wheat procurement is scheduled to begin shortly, with the Centre-fixed Minimum Support Price at Rs 2,585 per quintal.

The Madhya Pradesh government has announced an additional bonus of Rs 40 per quintal, bringing the effective procurement price to Rs 2,625 per quintal for farmers.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reviewed the preparations and assured robust arrangements for the season.

Adequate stocks of gunny bags have been arranged, and the government has set up help desks at all procurement centres along with district-level control rooms.

The entire process will be closely monitored through a dedicated control room in the Chief Minister’s Office.

“We will take it up to Rs 2,700 per quintal,” CM Yadav said, reaffirming the government’s long-term commitment to provide remunerative prices to farmers.

He added that ensuring farmers receive a fair price for their produce remains their firm commitment.

He said they aspire to serve the public, and with this objective in mind, superior arrangements have been put in place for wheat procurement at the designated centres.

As part of the ‘Farmer Welfare Year’ (Krishi Kalyan Varsh) 2026, farmers visiting procurement centres will also be informed about various government welfare schemes through pamphlets, hoardings, and on-ground outreach.

Instructions have been issued to make the process farmer-friendly and transparent.

The state government is prioritising small and marginal farmers and has directed officials to ensure hassle-free procurement, with priority given to registered farmers.

Chief Minister Yadav emphasised that 2026, being observed as the Farmer Welfare Year, will see coordinated efforts from multiple departments to enhance farmer income and welfare.

This year’s higher registration reflects growing confidence among farmers in the state’s procurement machinery.

Officials expect smooth operations with continuous monitoring to prevent any inconvenience at the centres.
