Multiple Aadhaar cards found inside locked Trinamool office in Kolkata

Kolkata, May 28 (IANS) Multiple Aadhaar cards were recovered from a Trinamool Congress party office in Kolkata’s Tangra area on Thursday, triggering questions among local residents.

According to reports, the office on East Kuliya Road had remained locked since the declaration of the Assembly election results on May 4. A section of locals broke open the lock and entered the premises, where the Aadhaar cards were found inside a cupboard.

The recovery of Aadhaar cards drew a crowd outside the Trinamool office, with several residents expressing surprise over how the documents ended up there. Some said they already possessed their original Aadhaar cards, while others claimed they had not received theirs despite completing the process.

The police were soon informed. An investigation into the incident has already been launched.

One local alleged that although his daughter’s Aadhaar card had been issued, it never reached him, raising suspicion that the cards were withheld after delivery. There were also unverified claims from some residents that the documents might have been misused.

Police have been informed, and an investigation is underway into the matter. There has been no official reaction from the Trinamool Congress so far.

The party office falls under the Beliaghata Assembly constituency. Local sources said it was earlier used by Trinamool leader Jiban Kumar Saha, but has seen little activity since the elections, with few party members visiting the premises.

Questions have also been raised about why such a large number of Aadhaar cards were kept inside a political party’s office. Some residents claimed the documents might have been intended for creating fake voter identity cards, though there has been no official confirmation of these allegations so far.
