New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) Attendees at the ‘Youth for Viksit Bharat – MY Bharat Youth Convention’ on Saturday voiced appreciation for the government’s efforts to empower young people and provide them with opportunities to contribute to nation-building.

Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), functioning under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is organising the ‘Youth for Viksit Bharat – MY Bharat Youth Convention’ at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi, bringing together thousands of young participants from across the country in a major celebration of youth leadership, innovation and national development.

The convention is being organised in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning the country’s youth as a key driving force in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said.

The event is witnessing the participation of more than 6,000 young people from different parts of India. The attendees will represent a wide spectrum of backgrounds, including students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators, content creators, emerging leaders, achievers and young women, reflecting the diversity and aspirations of India’s youth.

Among those present was the Indian national record holder in the men’s 100 metres, Gurindervir Singh, who described the occasion as a significant moment for athletes and young achievers.

“This is a very proud moment for us. We are getting the opportunity to come on such a big stage. Our government has helped us a lot in our sports. We were provided with all facilities. Now, we are being honoured; it is a proud moment for us,” he said.

Hockey player Rajendra Singh also welcomed the initiative and congratulated fellow sportspersons being recognised at the event.

“I think it is a great feeling. First of all, congratulations to all the athletes who are receiving awards. It is a wonderful feeling. As an athlete, I am very happy for them,” he said.

Cricketer Jitesh Sharma praised Prime Minister Modi’s engagement with sports and athletes, saying his encouragement has a positive impact on players across disciplines.

“I want to say that I am a big fan of PM Modi. As a Prime Minister, he is very involved in sports and supports athletes a lot. He is aware of every player’s victories and defeats, and his support and tweets are very encouraging,” Sharma said.

Speaking further about the role of young people, he added, “When it comes to youth, it always feels good. Because when your brothers move forward, it makes you very happy. I feel very proud that I have been invited here for this.”

Entrepreneur and boAt co-founder Aman Gupta highlighted India’s growing appeal as a destination for innovation and entrepreneurship, noting that many talented Indians are now choosing to return home to build businesses and contribute to the country’s development.

“If you see, our country is becoming a very strong nation for entrepreneurs. A lot is happening around the world. In the United States, many Indians are returning to India. In the movie ‘Swades’, Shah Rukh Khan returns to his country. Now the same thing is happening in real life — people are coming back to India from abroad. AI has become very popular in India. The youth are now driving the next wave of innovation in our country,” Gupta said.

Bihar BJP MLA Maithili Thakur also spoke about the increasing participation of young people in public life and politics, describing herself as an example of the opportunities being created for youth without political backgrounds.

“First of all, when the Prime Minister called for the inclusion of 100,000 young people in politics who do not have a political background, I can confidently say that I also stand before you today as one of those young leaders. This is a matter of great pride for my family and me,” she said.

Thakur further credited the Prime Minister for inspiring young citizens and encouraging them to play an active role in shaping the nation’s future.

“The Prime Minister is an inspiration for all of us. He understands us, the youth, and motivates us a lot. This shows how great our country is,” she added.

The gathering aims to create a platform where the achievers of today can interact with the architects of tomorrow’s India, encouraging a shared commitment towards public leadership, national development and social transformation.
