NDA govt in Assam will fulfil people’s aspirations: BJP leader Ranoj Pegu

Guwahati, May 12 (IANS) Senior BJP MLA Ranoj Pegu on Tuesday said that the BJP-led NDA government in Assam would continue working to fulfil the aspirations of the people, asserting that the alliance had successfully delivered on most of its promises during its previous tenure.

Speaking to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government at the Khanapara playground in Guwahati, Pegu described the occasion as a matter of “great pride” for the state.

“It is a proud moment for all of us that such an important programme took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from around 22 states. The NDA government has been sworn in for the third consecutive term in Assam,” Pegu said.

The senior BJP leader stated that the massive public mandate in favour of the NDA reflected the trust people have reposed in the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP.

According to Pegu, the BJP-led government had fulfilled a large number of commitments made to the people during its earlier tenure and would continue to focus on development and welfare initiatives across the state.

“The NDA government under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party had earlier made several promises and successfully implemented many of them. We firmly believe that from the very first day of this new term, the government will work towards fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Assam,” he added.

Pegu had served as the Education Minister in the previous Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government and was regarded as one of the prominent faces of the cabinet.

The oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday witnessed the presence of Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, several Union Ministers, NDA Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers and senior BJP leaders from across the country.

Lakhs of BJP supporters and party workers gathered at the venue to witness the ceremony, which marked the beginning of the third consecutive NDA government in Assam.

Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term, along with four other ministers, during the ceremony held amid elaborate security arrangements in Guwahati.
