Patna, May 14 (IANS) Following the nationwide cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate examination, the investigation into the alleged paper leak has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has begun its probe into the matter. The development has also triggered a sharp political exchange, with Opposition leaders, including Rohini Acharya, stepping up their attacks on the Central Government.

Rohini Acharya, daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Thursday criticised the Centre over the NEET-UG 2026 cancellation issue, raising questions about the NDA government’s silence on repeated examination paper leaks.

In a post on X, Rohini Acharya said the issue directly impacts the future of millions of students and deserves serious attention at the highest level.

In her remarks, she questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address the issue in his popular programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, especially when he regularly engages with students through initiatives like ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’.

She alleged that despite multiple incidents of paper leaks in competitive examinations over the years, the issue has not been adequately addressed, raising concerns about the impact on India’s youth.

Along with her post, Rohini Acharya shared a poster featuring the Prime Minister’s image with the caption “Paper Leak Government.”

The post referenced alleged irregularities in exams such as NEET-UG 2024 and 2026, as well as recruitment examinations, aiming to highlight the concerns of students.

The NEET controversy has now evolved beyond an investigation into alleged malpractice, becoming a major political issue.

With the CBI probe underway, further developments are expected in the coming days as both the investigation and political debate intensify.

The controversy erupted after allegations of a paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 exam conducted on May 3.

Following this, authorities decided to cancel the entire examination.

NEET is one of India’s most competitive entrance exams, serving as the gateway for admission into MBBS and other medical courses.

This year, around 23 lakh candidates had appeared for the test.

Officials have confirmed that existing registrations of candidates will remain valid for the re-examination.

The re-exam is expected to be held in June, with a formal schedule and new dates expected to be announced by May 20.
