Nitish Kumar made planned transition to next generation: Bihar Dy CM

Patna, May 9 (IANS) A major political clarification has emerged in Bihar regarding the resignation of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on April 14.

Nearly 25 days later, on May 9, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary publicly explained the real reason behind his decision.

According to Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Nitish Kumar stepped down not due to any immediate political compulsion, but as part of a planned transition aimed at giving opportunities to the next generation of leadership.

He emphasised that Nitish Kumar had served Bihar for nearly two decades and believed it was time to pass the responsibility to a younger leader.

Choudhary stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party had consistently supported Nitish Kumar’s leadership over the years.

In return, Nitish Kumar decided that a young BJP leader—who had stood by him for a long time—should be elevated to the Chief Minister’s post.

This paved the way for Samrat Choudhary to take over as the state’s new Chief Minister.

During his visit to Shirdi, where he offered prayers at the shrine of Sai Baba, Vijay Kumar Choudhary also spoke about the induction of Nishant Kumar into active politics.

He revealed that party leaders had been urging both Nitish Kumar and Nishant for nearly six months to allow Nishant to enter politics.

According to him, Nishant Kumar’s appointment as Health Minister was based on the belief that he would perform effectively in the role.

He stressed that Nishant’s entry was not a unilateral family decision but the result of sustained demand from party workers within the Janata Dal (United).

Responding to criticism from opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav on the issue of dynastic politics, Vijay Kumar Choudhary countered by pointing to Lalu Prasad Yadav, stating that he too had brought his children into politics.

He argued that Nishant Kumar’s political entry was driven by organisational consensus rather than personal ambition.

Choudhary further asserted that the NDA government remains stable and consistent.

He said that just as Bihar was governed effectively under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, the current NDA government led by Samrat Choudhary would continue to work in the public interest and could remain in power for many years if it maintains the same governance approach.
