Nitish Kumar reviews Patna-Bettiah Greenfield Expressway in Saran

Patna, April 13 (IANS) Amid intense political speculation in Bihar over a possible leadership change, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a notable visit to Saran, inspecting key infrastructure projects even as discussions about his potential resignation gather momentum.

Defying the ongoing political buzz, Nitish Kumar toured development sites under the scorching sun, reviewing the progress of the Patna-Bettiah Greenfield Expressway at the Bakarpur–Manikpur four-lane stretch on Monday.

His presence on the ground—just a day before his anticipated resignation—sparked widespread discussion among locals, many of whom found it remarkable that he continued official duties until the very last moment.

During his visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the Bakarpur–Manikpur four-lane road, which is part of a Patna-Bettiah Greenfield expressway and inspected the construction of a new bridge parallel to JP Setu.

Officials informed him that the first phase of the expressway is targeted for completion by April 2027, which would reduce travel time between Patna and Bettiah to nearly three hours.

Nitish Kumar directed officials to keep high-quality construction and ensure timely completion.

He also asked officials to conduct regular monitoring and avoid any form of negligence in this project.

He described the project as crucial for improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion, and boosting economic activity across North Bihar.

The Chief Minister highlighted that once completed, the expressway will improve connectivity across Vaishali, Saran, East Champaran, and West Champaran, reduce travel time significantly, boost trade and local economies, and ease pressure on existing routes.

Local residents expressed optimism that these projects will bring long-term relief from traffic congestion and accelerate regional development.

The visit comes just ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, when the Chief Minister is expected to chair the final cabinet meeting of his current government.

Strong speculation suggests he may tender his resignation soon after.

Subsequently, Bihar is expected to witness the formation of a new government, with the Bharatiya Janata Party likely to lead it.

Even as Bihar stands at a political crossroads, Nitish Kumar’s on-ground engagement underscores a governance approach focused on continuity—right up to the brink of a potential transition.
