New Delhi, June 15 (IANS) In a significant breakthrough against motor vehicle theft, the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of East District Police has arrested a notorious criminal and recovered four stolen two-wheelers from his possession, officials said on Monday.

The recovery has led to the detection of four motor vehicle theft cases registered at different police stations in East Delhi.

The police said, “One active and notorious auto-lifter arrested by AATS/East District; Four stolen two-wheelers were recovered from his possession and at his instance. Stolen vehicles pertaining to Police Station Kalyan Puri, PS Shakarpur, PS Laxmi Nagar and PS Preet Vihar recovered.”

Accused found to be involved in interstate vehicle theft activities. Four cases of motor vehicle theft were successfully worked out. Recovery effected through intensive surveillance, preventive checking and actionable secret information, according to the police.

The operation was carried out through sustained surveillance, intelligence gathering and preventive checking under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Pavan Kumar and Inspector Anand Singh, I/C AATS East District. A dedicated team comprising SI Devender, ASI Praveen, Head Constable Vikrant and Ct. Manish was tasked with identifying and apprehending active criminals involved in vehicle theft and other property offences in the district.

On June 13, during preventive vehicle checking near Ghazipur Chowk, police received specific secret information about a suspect moving with a stolen white Honda Activa scooter.

Acting swiftly, a trap was laid near Nala Road, Rajbir Colony, Ghazipur, where the suspect was spotted pushing a scooter without registration plates.

The individual was intercepted, and during verification, the scooter was found stolen in e-FIR No. 013588/26 registered at PS Kalyan Puri. The accused was identified as Akash, aged 30 years, resident of Khichripur, Kalyanpuri, Delhi, with a permanent address in Village Agrana, Jarara Lalgarhi, District Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.

During sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had concealed several other stolen vehicles. Acting on his disclosure, police conducted a recovery operation at a park near Block-18, Trilokpuri, near Dharamshila Red Light, Delhi, where three more stolen two-wheelers were recovered.

The recovered vehicles were later verified and linked to cases registered at the police stations in Shakarpur, Laxmi Nagar and Preet Vihar.

Police said the accused was actively engaged in stealing and concealing two-wheeled vehicles for wrongful gain and is suspected to be involved in interstate vehicle theft networks.

Further investigation is underway to identify his associates and trace receivers of stolen property. All four motor vehicle theft cases have been successfully worked out following the recoveries, police said.
