The Indian Society of Western Australia (ISWA) hosted the lively Diwali Mela 2025, a grand celebration of Indian culture, traditions, and community unity, attended by Consul General Kajari Biswas. The event brought together political leaders, dignitaries, and the local community, highlighting Western Australia’s rich multicultural spirit.
Key attendees included Roger Cook, Premier of Western Australia; Dr Tony Buti, Attorney General and Minister for Commerce, Tertiary and International Education, and Multicultural Interests; Matt Keogh MP, Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans’ Affairs, representing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese; and Basil Zempilas MLA, Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for State Development, Trade and Investment, Citizenship and Multicultural Interests.
The celebration was further brightened by Bollywood stars Chunky Panday and Poonam Dhillon. As President of the Cine and Television Artistes Association (CINTAA), Poonam Dhillon encouraged collaborations between India and Western Australia in the film and creative sectors, highlighting cultural and professional exchange opportunities.
The Mela featured a vibrant mix of cultural performances, traditional rituals, and engaging community activities, providing attendees with an immersive experience of Indian heritage. Deepak Sharma, the ISWA Committee, and volunteers were credited for organising a seamless and memorable event.
Diwali Mela 2025 not only celebrated the festival of lights but also strengthened ties within the Indian community and beyond, reflecting the diversity, vibrancy, and cultural richness of Western Australia while fostering cross-cultural engagement and unity.
