PM Modi hails 7.7pc growth rate, says India remains world’s fastest-growing major economy

Daman, June 5 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted India’s economic performance, saying the country recorded a 7.7 per cent growth rate in the financial year 2025-26 and retained its position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

Addressing a public meeting in Daman, PM Modi described the latest economic figures as encouraging news and said they reflected the strength of India’s economic foundations.

“The figures released today clearly show how strong the foundations of India’s economy are,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the economy grew by 7.7 per cent during the financial year, while the quarter ending March 31 saw growth of 7.8 per cent.

“This makes India the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Every Indian should take pride in this achievement,” he said.

PM Modi attributed the performance to economic reforms, infrastructure expansion, and welfare programmes aimed at improving the lives of poorer households.

“The country is moving forward on the ‘Reform Express’. The massive infrastructure development taking place across the nation and the large-scale work being carried out for the welfare of the poor are producing these results,” he noted.

The Prime Minister said India’s economic progress had been achieved despite difficult global conditions marked by uncertainty and slowing growth in several parts of the world.

He argued that investments in roads, railways, ports, airports, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure had strengthened the country’s growth trajectory.

PM Modi also linked the economic figures to the government’s broader agenda of “Reform, Perform and Transform”, which he said would continue to guide policymaking in the years ahead.

“I assure the nation once again that India will continue to move forward rapidly on the path of Reform, Perform and Transform,” he said.

The Prime Minister said maintaining growth while improving living standards remained a central objective and credited the efforts of citizens, businesses, and workers across the country for helping India achieve the latest milestone.
