New Delhi, June 27 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted India’s vision of placing the Global South at the centre of a secure, resilient, equitable and sustainable global energy future under the current BRICS Chairship 2026.

Sharing an article written by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on social media platform X, PM Modi said India believes resilient energy systems are built not only through strong domestic policies but also through stronger international partnerships.

“As India takes up the BRICS Chairship in 2026, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar writes that India seeks to place the Global South at the centre of a secure, resilient, equitable and sustainable global energy future,” he said.

PM Modi added that the article highlights India’s belief that resilient energy systems require greater international cooperation alongside robust domestic policy frameworks.

In the article, Khattar said the global energy landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, making cooperation and innovation critical for developing economies seeking to balance economic growth, energy security and sustainability.

He said India would use its BRICS Chairship to translate a shared vision into tangible outcomes by strengthening cooperation among emerging economies in areas such as energy access, clean energy transition, technology and innovation.

The minister highlighted India’s progress in expanding electricity access, increasing non-fossil fuel capacity and scaling up renewable energy. He noted that the country has crossed 50 per cent installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources ahead of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target.

In addition, Khattar underlined initiatives to strengthen energy security through coal gasification, green hydrogen, electric mobility and expansion of the transmission network, while pointing to the growing role of digital technologies such as smart meters and the India Energy Stack in modernising the power sector.

According to him, the complementary strengths of BRICS nations can help build secure, resilient and sustainable energy systems while advancing the interests of the Global South through stronger international partnerships.
