PM Modi invokes Singapore example as Daman pursues long-term development goals

Daman, June 5 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday compared the development aspirations of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu with Singapore’s transformation, saying ambitious goals and long-term planning could reshape the future of the Union Territory.

Addressing a public gathering in Daman, PM Modi recalled remarks made during a visit to Silvassa last year.

“I gave you the example of Singapore. Singapore was once a small fishing village. But its people dreamt big, set ambitious goals, and today Singapore has become one of the world’s leading business hubs,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the Union Territory was now pursuing a similarly ambitious development vision.

“Today, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu are also dreaming the same dream,” he said.

According to PM Modi, investments in infrastructure are laying the foundation for future economic expansion and improved living standards.

He highlighted projects including NAMO Airport, the proposed iconic bridge across the Daman Ganga River, beachfront development initiatives, and a convention centre.

“These projects will make travel easier, create new business opportunities, and advance development on both banks of Daman,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that the hospitality, tourism, trade, and logistics sectors were expected to benefit from the new infrastructure.

PM Modi argued that strategic investments were essential for transforming smaller regions into economic centres capable of attracting investment and creating employment opportunities.

He said improved connectivity and urban infrastructure would support long-term growth while enhancing the region’s attractiveness as a tourism destination.

The Prime Minister’s comments reflected the government’s broader emphasis on infrastructure-led development as a driver of economic activity and regional competitiveness.
