Rabri Devi begins vacating 10 Circular Road residence in Patna after 4 notices by Bihar govt

Patna, June 26 (IANS) The process of vacating the official residence at 10 Circular Road in Patna, long associated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leadership and the family of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, has gathered pace, signaling the possible end of a significant chapter in Bihar’s political history.

On Friday, CCTV cameras installed outside the bungalow were removed, while the gradual shifting of household belongings from the premises continued.

The developments have intensified political discussions over the impending change at one of Bihar’s most prominent political addresses.

Rabri Devi has been residing at 10 Circular Road since 2006. The government bungalow was initially allotted to her during her tenure as Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly and later in the Legislative Council.

Former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has also lived at the residence for many years.

Over nearly two decades, the bungalow became an important centre of political activity for the RJD.

Several crucial political meetings, organisational decisions, and election strategies were reportedly discussed and finalised there, making the residence a notable landmark in Bihar politics.

The state government has now allotted the bungalow to Animal and Fisheries Resources Minister Nand Kishore Ram.

Meanwhile, Rabri Devi has been allotted an official residence at 39 Harding Road in her capacity as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council.

According to reports, Rabri Devi had requested the government to allow her to continue occupying 10 Circular Road, but the Building Construction Department did not approve the request.

The department issued four notices so far asking the occupants to vacate the premises.

The final deadline is scheduled to expire on June 29, after which the residence is expected to be formally handed over to the new allottee.

Construction work and modifications are underway at the newly-allotted residence on Harding Road.

Reports indicate that Rabri Devi requested certain structural changes, and the Building Construction Department is carrying out the necessary work.

Political circles have also speculated that the family may eventually shift to its private residence currently under construction in Kautilya Nagar.

The removal of security equipment and the ongoing relocation process suggest that the transfer of the residence is nearing completion.

For nearly 20 years, 10 Circular Road served as an important political address, witnessing both the rise and challenges of the RJD and the Lalu family.

The departure of Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav from the bungalow is widely being viewed as a symbolic moment in Bihar politics, marking the end of an era associated with one of the state’s most influential political families.
