Jaipur, Aug 8 (IANS) An attempted theft was reported at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges (MFFR) in Bikaner district in the early hours of Saturday after unidentified individuals allegedly gained unauthorised entry into the premises by breaching the perimeter fence.

According to an official statement, a small quantity of fuel and cash is suspected to have been stolen during the incident. The matter was promptly taken up by intelligence and security agencies, which initiated coordinated efforts to identify those involved, said Lt Col Nikhil Dhawan, PRO Defence, Rajasthan.

Following the report, security and investigative teams swung into action and worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Within six hours, the teams identified key operational leads, including a suspected vehicle registration number and possible suspects from neighbouring rural areas.

Authorities are currently examining the available leads and gathering further information to establish the sequence of events and identify the individuals responsible for the unauthorised entry and suspected theft.

The Station Headquarters is formally reporting the matter to local civilian police authorities to initiate legal proceedings and a detailed investigation.

Further action will be taken in coordination with the concerned agencies as the investigation progresses.

Officials said the investigation remains underway and further details will be shared as and when they become available. The incident comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to maintain vigilance and safeguard sensitive defence establishments and training areas.

Authorities reiterated the importance of strict perimeter security and prompt response to any unauthorised activity in and around such facilities.

Security agencies are expected to examine all relevant aspects of the incident, including the breach of the perimeter fence, suspected vehicle movement and other available leads, as part of the ongoing investigation.

Officials maintained that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with established procedures and that appropriate legal action will follow based on the findings.

Defence authorities said any further verified information would be communicated through official channels as the investigation develops.
