Jaipur, July 16 (IANS) Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has directed all departments to remain on high alert during the monsoon season, warning that any negligence in preparedness or response will not be tolerated.

Stressing that public safety is the government’s top priority, he instructed officials to ensure citizens do not face inconvenience due to heavy rainfall, waterlogging, or damaged infrastructure.

Chairing a high‑level review meeting on Thursday to assess monsoon preparedness and post‑rain road repairs, the Chief Minister asked officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for restoring damaged roads immediately after the rains and to ensure precautionary measures are in place well in advance.

He directed officials to complete 100 per cent cleaning of drains across the state so that rainwater can flow freely and roads are not damaged due to overflowing drains.

Departments were also instructed to clean rooftop drainage systems of government buildings to prevent waterlogging and structural damage during heavy rainfall.

Emphasising public health preparedness, Sharma directed the Health Department to take concrete steps to prevent seasonal diseases during the monsoon.

He instructed officials to ensure adequate stocks of essential medicines, keep emergency medical services fully prepared, and strengthen preventive measures against waterborne and vector‑borne diseases.

The Chief Minister ordered all departments to maintain operational readiness for disaster management and relief operations. He directed that control rooms remain fully functional and responsive throughout the monsoon season.

Issuing a stern warning, Sharma said officials at every level would be held accountable for negligence, adding that strict disciplinary action would be taken against those found responsible for lapses.

The meeting also reviewed disaster and flood management, the water storage status of dams, and the repair of rain‑damaged public assets. Highlighting the importance of water conservation, Sharma directed officials to prepare a comprehensive inventory of all drinking water dams and formulate a long‑term strategy to maximise the use of surplus rainwater.

He stressed that rainwater should not be allowed to go to waste and called for effective planning to harness overflow to meet future water needs.

Chief Secretary V. Srinivas and senior officials from the concerned departments attended the review meeting.
