Rajasthan Police target drug syndicate finances, freeze assets in Udaipur

Jaipur, June 20 (IANS) In a major crackdown on the financial infrastructure of drug trafficking networks, the Udaipur Police have frozen and seized four vehicles allegedly purchased using proceeds from the illegal narcotics trade.

The action was taken under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of an intensified campaign to dismantle the economic base of drug mafias.

Acting on the directions of Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Udaipur Police have launched a sustained drive against properties and assets acquired through drug-related crimes.

The operation was carried out by Vallabhnagar Police under the supervision of Udaipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Amrita Duhan, Additional SP (Kherwara) Anjana Sukhwal, Circle Officer (Vallabhnagar) Shravan Das Sant and Station House Officer Poonaram Gurjar.

According to the police, investigations revealed that accused Vipin, son of Mangu and a resident of Badgaon Purohitan village in Vallabhnagar, had been associated with major drug smugglers operating in western Rajasthan for several years.

He allegedly provided accommodation, safe hideouts, logistical assistance and local support to narcotics traffickers in return for financial benefits.

Police said the accused used the proceeds earned through these illegal activities to acquire four vehicles, including a Scorpio SUV, an Alto car, a loading tempo and a Mahindra tractor.

Following a detailed financial investigation, field verification and collection of evidence, police concluded that the vehicles had been purchased entirely through income generated from drug trafficking activities.

Acting under Section 68F of the NDPS Act, the police identified, froze and seized all four vehicles.

Officials said the complete case file, including supporting evidence, financial records and details of the assets, has been forwarded to the competent authority in New Delhi for further legal proceedings and statutory approval.

SP Dr Amrita Duhan said the action reflects the police department’s resolve to dismantle not only drug trafficking networks but also the wealth generated through narcotics crimes.

“Our campaign against assets acquired through drug trafficking will continue. Whether such properties are held in the offender’s own name or through benami arrangements, they will be identified and action will be taken in accordance with the law,” she said.

The SP also appealed to individuals affected by drug abuse to return to the mainstream and reiterated that protecting youth from narcotics and building a drug-free society remain top priorities for the police.

The seizure marks another significant step in Rajasthan Police’s ongoing efforts to target the financial backbone of organised drug trafficking networks operating across the state.
