A man has been arrested and a crossbow seized from his car after his brother found their mother lying dead in her bed this morning.
The 55-year-old woman lived at the home on Florida Street, in Sylvania, with her two sons, aged 31 and 28.
The 28-year-old called police around 6.45am after discovering his mother dead in her bed.
Superintendent Michael O’Toole said the 28-year-old is helping police with their investigation but is “very distraught”.
The woman’s other son was stopped by police on the Princes Highway at St Peters a short time later.
He was arrested and taken to Newtown police station where he is assisting police.
Supt. O’Toole confirmed that a crossbow had been seized from the 31-year-old’s vehicle, along with several other items.
He could not confirm how or when the woman died, and implored anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area from yesterday evening to contact police.
