‘State under narco-militancy’, ‘AAP responsible for spike in terrorism’: BJP, Cong on Punjab law and order

New Delhi/Punjab, April 3 (IANS) The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Friday, expressed concern about the current law and order situation in Punjab, saying that the state is again under “narco-militancy”. Additionally, the BJP held the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government responsible for “increased terrorism” in the state.

The reactions come days after a low-intensity explosion was reported outside the BJP’s office at Sector-37 in Chandigarh.

Congress MP Manish Tewari said, “The situation in Punjab is becoming increasingly sensitive. The state is under the grip of narco-militancy again, and its impact is now being felt in Chandigarh as well. There have been four incidents in the past 15 days, including one where a grenade-like thing was thrown outside the BJP office.”

Expressing his concern, Tewari told IANS, “It is very concerning thing. Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Police should coordinate among themselves and keep the situation under control, especially in Mohali, Panchkula, Chandigarh, New Chandigarh. People are very tensed regarding all this.”

Holding the AAP government responsible for the incident, BJP MP Yogender Chandolia said, “The AAP government is responsible for spike in incidents of terrorism in Punjab. The blast in Chandigarh is a very dangerous issue. Both Punjab and Central government should take strict action against the incident.”

Janata Dal-United leader Rajeev Ranjan Prasad also held the ruling AAP responsible for substance abuse and “dominance” of criminal gangs in Punjab.

He told IANS, “There is no doubt that the trade of narcotics, substance abuse, and the dominance of criminal gangs have increased. The common people in Punjab are fearful and intimidated. The situation clearly indicates that law and order in Punjab is steadily deteriorating under the AAP government.”

Samajwadi Party Spokesperson Dharmendra Singh urged for strict action in the Chandigarh incident.

“Concerned agencies should carry out investigation and strong action should be taken against incidents like these,” he told IANS.

Meanwhile, AAP MP Malwinder Singh Kang said, “An organised, high security zone like Chandigarh which is being controlled by the the Ministry of Home Affairs, if that is not secure then how they (BJP-led Central government) speak about governing Punjab.”

Kang asked the Union government to hand over the control of Chandigarh to the AAP-led Punjab government.

“In that case, they (Centtre) should give Chandigarh under our (AAP government’s) control. It is the capital of Punjab, right? Let the BJP give Punjab government full control of Chandigarh, we will not allow a single untoward incident to happen,” he asked.
