A CHILD of the 70s has used the free-love, joint-toking traditions of yore to justify being stoned behind the wheel.
Brian George Wirth was nabbed by police on September 2 driving along the Bruce Hwy, North Arm about 5.45pm where he tested positive for marijuana.
He pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today to one count of drug driving.
But according to Wirth’s lawyer, he’s just the victim of a lost generation.
It was argued on Wirth’s behalf that he was just “purely a category of people who grew up in the 70s” when marijuana was used to relax – he just hadn’t caught up with the current legislation yet.
Magistrate Ron Madsen rejected this claim as Wirth had been charged for similar offences in 2010 and 2016.
Wirth was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for five months.
