Stop demolition of Muslim religious sites in Rajasthan: Owaisi to HM Amit Shah

Hyderabad, June 21 (IANS) Voicing concern over alleged demolitions of a series of religious Muslim sites in Rajasthan, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday demanded that Union Minister Home Amit Shah immediately stop them.

The Hyderabad MP termed the demolitions ‘targeted’ and ‘illegal’.

He took to X to voice his concern over the demolitions. “There has been a wave of demolitions targeting mosques, dargahs, and other Muslim religious sites across Rajasthan’s border districts of Bikaner, Phalodi, Jaisalmer, and Barmer. I spoke to AIMIM Bikaner District President Shafi Jameel Qasmi, who stated that four mosques in Bikaner and nine mosques and dargahs across Phalodi, Jaisalmer, and Barmer have already been demolished. Notices have also reportedly been issued to hundreds of other religious sites,” Owaisi said in a post.

“Among those facing action is the approximately 250-year-old dargah of Hazrat Mahmood Shah Jilani on the Ramgarh–Tanot Bypass Road in Jaisalmer. These demolitions are being justified on national security grounds. However, none of the people in these areas has ever been involved in any such activities,” he said.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief alleged that only Muslim places of worship are being targeted. “Authorities have alleged that some structures are built on grazing land. In cases where it has been shown that the structures stand on private property, the allegation has reportedly shifted to a lack of permissions or approvals,” he said.

“These discriminatory and targeted demolitions are illegal and must be stopped immediately,” Owaisi added, tagging Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In an earlier post on Saturday, the Hyderabad MP had reacted to the Central Bureau of Investigation’s decision to appeal the acquittal in the 2006 double murder case of Maharashtra Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar and his driver Samad Kazi.

“Very Shameful and grave injustice that Modi government didn’t allow CBI to Appeal in Babri Masjid Criminal case, Mecca Masjid Blast case, Ajmer Blast where people died in large numbers, Masjid demolition case. NO accused was found guilty,” posted Owaisi.

“Government will Appeal not for Justice but for political reasons. Pawan Raje and driver Samad Kazi were killed in 2006. Osmanabad MP is caught in Catch 22 situation, let us hope he gets Legal Justice,” added the AIMIM leader.
