Supriya Sule scoffs at rumours of joining MahaYuti, downplays meeting with BJP MP

Mumbai, July 7 (IANS) Nationalist Congress Party (SP) working president and MP Supriya Sule on Tuesday scoffed at rumours of her party aligning with the MahaYuti, hinting that there is no substance to them.

She was speaking to reporters when media personnel questioned speculation about NCP (SP) moving towards the MahaYuti, specifically citing purported talks between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Vinod Tawde and NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil.

Sule downplayed the political gravity of the meeting with a witty response. She said she did not know if that specific meeting took place, but added that she and she meet very often as they serve on the same committee.

She noted that in the past month alone, she and she had met 21 times. Many BJP leaders, including their party president, are part of it, and they regularly sit together with many such leaders, she said, normalising the interaction as routine administrative work rather than political matchmaking.

When pressed on whether her party would soon be seen in power, Sule said their primary role is to serve the common public.

She noted that people have been speculating about them for the last 12 years. If the current governance continues as it is, the NCP and their allies would have no choice but to fight hard and seize power. She added that God knows what the current government will do next.

Sule humorously deflected the queries while taking sharp jabs at the ruling government on multiple fronts, including the Ayodhya Ram Temple, farmer loan waivers, and infrastructure failures.

Shifting from defence to offence, Sule launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing them of corruption regarding the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, referencing recent viral videos.

She said videos have emerged showing money and silver being removed from the temple, and that the BJP’s own channels broadcast them. The entire Indian public contributed to building this temple through immense struggle and hard work, she said, adding that it belongs to Maryada Purushottam Ram. If corruption is happening there, too, she asked, what is left to say?

Targeting the BJP’s frequent allegations against the opposition, Sule remarked that the BJP calls the Congress and NCP, who shaped the country’s values, corrupt. She said today they must answer for not even sparing Lord Ram.

She accused them of engineering a deceptive farmer loan waiver and committing the sin of deceiving Lord Ram, and said they owe the public an answer.

Sule also slammed the MahaYuti government over agrarian distress and recent infrastructure failures following the monsoon rains, specifically citing a landslide on the ‘Missing Link’ section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

She said the crop loan waiver is completely deceptive and that the government is committing the sin of breaking the backbone of hardworking farmers who remain loyal to their soil.

Turning to the expressway disruption, she demanded accountability. She said she had demanded yesterday that the Chief Minister must launch a thorough investigation into the matter.

She noted that they made such a massive hype about the ‘Missing Link’ project, and it collapsed in the very first rains, shutting down traffic for 18 hours.

She said the contractors must be held accountable.
