Chennai, May 14 (IANS) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said Tamil Nadu had voted for “change and aspirations” in the recently concluded Assembly elections, while expressing hope that the new government would fulfil the people’s expectations.

In a message posted on social media after meeting Congress legislators from Tamil Nadu, Kharge said the party leadership had discussed various measures aimed at strengthening the Congress organisation in the state and expanding its political outreach in the coming months.

“This time, Tamil Nadu has stood for change and aspirations,” Kharge said, interpreting the electoral verdict as a reflection of the people’s desire for a new political direction and governance model in the state.

The Congress president said that MLAs belonging to the Tamil Nadu Congress Legislature Party met him and held detailed discussions on the party’s future course in the state.

“@INCTamilNadu MLAs met me, and we discussed aspects of strengthening the party in the state,” he said.

Kharge also extended his best wishes to the newly formed government in Tamil Nadu and expressed hope that it would work towards fulfilling the promises and aspirations of the people.

“Wishing the new government success in fulfilling the dreams of the people,” he added.

The remarks assume significance in the backdrop of the dramatic political changes witnessed in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 Assembly elections, which led to a major realignment of the state’s political landscape.

Congress leaders believe the verdict has opened new political possibilities and created space to strengthen the party’s organisational structure in Tamil Nadu.

Sources within the party said the meeting focused on reviewing the Assembly election performance, analysing regional political trends, and preparing a roadmap for future electoral battles, including local body elections and the next parliamentary polls.

The discussions are also understood to have centred around improving booth-level coordination, increasing youth and women participation in the organisation, and strengthening district-level leadership structures.

Senior Congress leaders from Tamil Nadu reportedly briefed Kharge on alliance dynamics, campaign challenges, and constituency-level feedback received during the Assembly elections.

The Congress, which continues to play a significant role in Tamil Nadu politics through alliances and regional partnerships, is expected to intensify its organisational activities in the state in the coming months as part of its broader southern expansion strategy.
