New Delhi, May 9 (IANS) Delhi Metro Police have cracked a theft case reported at Karol Bagh Metro Station. As a result, the police team apprehended three women accused of stealing a commuter’s wallet and valuables.

According to police officials, the case was registered on May 5, 2026, at the Delhi Metro Rail Police, Raja Garden Metro Police Station, following a complaint lodged by P. Naga Laxmi, a resident of Uttam Nagar.

The complainant alleged that her wallet, containing around Rs 6,000 in cash, a silver payal, a rudraksha bead, and her Aadhaar card, was stolen from her bag while she was standing in a queue at the ticket counter at Karol Bagh Metro Station.

Following the complaint, police formed a dedicated investigation team that conducted a detailed examination of CCTV footage from the metro station and surrounding areas. Through technical surveillance and careful analysis, investigators identified three suspects involved in the theft.

Acting on the leads, the police team swiftly apprehended all three accused women from Shadipur Metro Station.

The accused have been identified as Sonia (27), wife of Neeraj and resident of Baba Faridpuri Camp, Anand Parbat; Sharda Rajuji Saikwad (32), wife of Aman and resident of Anand Parbat; and Naina (24), wife of Amjad, also a resident of Anand Parbat.

During sustained interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to their involvement in the offence. Based on their disclosure, police recovered Rs 4,500 in cash and one silver payal belonging to the complainant.

Police said all three accused women have been bound down under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), while Sections 317(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have also been invoked in the case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) B. Bharat Reddy stated that the case highlights the effectiveness of prompt police response, technological surveillance, and coordinated field action in solving crimes committed in crowded public spaces.

He added that the timely arrest of the accused and recovery of stolen property demonstrate the vigilance and operational efficiency of Delhi Metro Police in ensuring commuter safety and maintaining law and order across the metro network. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
