Patna, May 1 (IANS) In a decisive push to improve urban mobility, Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal conducted extensive on-site inspections of key roads and flyovers across Patna.

The inspection focused on riding quality, technical defects and traffic bottlenecks, with strict timelines issued for corrective action.

During the inspection of major corridors, including JP Ganga Path, Atal Path and Patli Path, the Secretary issued clear instructions that negligence in maintenance would not be tolerated.

He directed officials that the main carriageway on Nehru Path be rectified within 15 days, and that the approach settlement near Shivpuri Flyover, Digha Flyover and Digha Rotary be fixed within three days.

Officials have been warned of strict action in case of delays.

On the stretch from Digha to Didarganj along JP Ganga Path, several issues were identified.

He observed that the sunken approach slab near Kurji bridge had deteriorated and directed officials to complete repairs within 10 days.

These measures are aimed at enhancing both safety and riding comfort on this crucial riverfront corridor.

Inspection of Patli Path revealed deterioration in expansion joints and the wearing coat. The Secretary directed officials to submit a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) within three days and expedite maintenance from the AIIMS roundabout to the JP Setu approach road through SDMC.

To tackle chronic congestion near Raja Bazar Flyover, several key decisions were taken, including identification of land for felling four trees near the junction in coordination with authorities, possible relocation of a temple (subject to approval), removal of a bus stop, gantry, electric poles and roadside obstructions, clearance of encroachments at Ashiana Mor, and initiation of land acquisition for road widening.

These steps are expected to significantly ease traffic flow in one of the city’s busiest zones.

Addressing congestion between R-Block and the Patna railway station roundabout, the Secretary emphasised the need for a long-term solution.

Reiterating the department’s commitment, Pankaj Kumar Pal said that delivering high-quality roads remains a top priority.

He directed engineers to strictly adhere to timelines and ensure that the public does not face inconvenience.

The emphasis remains on improving riding quality, eliminating defects and ensuring smooth traffic flow across Patna.
