Guwahati/Agartala, May 11 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that under the “Marg Darshan” (guidance) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, multifaceted development has been taking place in Assam.

The Tripura Chief Minister, along with state BJP president and Rajya Sabha member Rajib Bhattacharjee, will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma and other ministers at the Veterinary College Field in the Khanapara area of Guwahati on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media after arriving in Guwahati, CM Saha described the BJP’s performance in Assam as a grand victory.

“You know the excellent result of the BJP in West Bengal. Our party has voted out the Trinamool Congress. Gradually, in more areas and phases, the BJP will come to power,” he said.

The Tripura Chief Minister said that Assam is moving ahead with all-round development under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma and that the BJP government in the state is working for the welfare of people belonging to all communities.

In a post on his X handle, Saha said: “Excited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji and witness the historic beginning of BJP 3.0 in Assam.

“Development, progress and strong governance continue. Assam is marching ahead with renewed energy, development and people-centric governance,” he added.

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday appointed BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of the state, hours after he was elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA alliance in Assam.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister J.P. Nadda, along with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, attended the BJP Legislature Party meeting in Guwahati as central observers appointed by the party leadership.

Following the meeting, J.P. Nadda announced Sarma’s name as the leader of the NDA Legislature Party.

The BJP’s alliance partners, including the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), also extended support to Sarma’s leadership.

The BJP-led NDA secured a decisive mandate in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections, paving the way for Sarma to assume office as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term and securing a third consecutive term in power for the BJP in the state.

The BJP alone won 82 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, enabling the party to retain power for a third consecutive term.

Its alliance partners — the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland People’s Front — secured 10 seats each.

The main opposition Congress won 19 seats, while the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Raijor Dal secured two seats each. The Trinamool Congress won one seat.
