Two twin toddlers remain in hospital in a critical condition after they were pulled from a backyard swimming pool in Kellyville Ridge, north-west of Sydney, last night.
Emergency services were called to reports that two unconscious children had been pulled from a pool in Charbel Place just after 7pm, police said.
The girl and boy, aged 23 months, were treated by paramedics at the scene and then taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
They remain in hospital in a critical condition, a police statement advised today.
“Everybody was shocked, because they’re such lovely neighbours and they’re very caring parents. It’s really sad,” neighbour Elsae Susanto told 9NEWS.
It’s believed the twins were out of the sight of their parents for a period of time, police said.
“Obviously at this time of year we urge people to be very vigilant around swimming pools, maintain the security and keep an eye on the children,” Chief Inspector Garry Sims told ABC.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family for the tragic incident.”
Police are investigating the incident.
