Bhopal/Dewas, April 12 (IANS) At least three persons were killed, and one was critically injured in a horrific road accident on the Dewas-Bhopal Highway near Nevri Phata in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district, officials said on Sunday.

The tragic incident occurred around 1.30 a.m. when a speeding car carrying four youths from Gunai village in Sonkach area went out of control, overturned, and crashed on the roadside.

The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely wrecked. Three young men died on the spot, while the fourth sustained serious injuries. The deceased have been identified as Shubham, Pradeep, and Mohit, all residents of Gunai village. Two of them were brothers. The injured person, Sachin, was rushed to a hospital in Dewas and later referred to Indore for advanced treatment. His condition is stated to be critical.

According to preliminary police investigation, the car was being driven at a very high speed, causing the driver to lose control.

CCTV footage from a point shortly before the accident site reportedly shows the vehicle approaching at excessive speed. Police have not ruled out other factors, such as mechanical failure or road conditions and have formed a team to conduct a thorough probe.

Senior police officials reached the spot soon after receiving information. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.

The families of the victims have been informed in Gunai village. The police have registered a case and are examining all possible angles, including whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or fatigue.

Officials have appealed to motorists to strictly follow speed limits and drive cautiously, especially during night hours.

The Dewas-Bhopal stretch is known for heavy traffic, and such incidents have been reported frequently in the past. Local residents expressed grief and demanded better road safety measures, including the installation of speed breakers, improved lighting, and stricter patrolling on the highway.

The district administration has assured full support to the bereaved families.
