New Delhi, July 14 (IANS) A Delhi Police constable, who had allegedly shot his wife dead in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area following a domestic dispute and went absconding, committed suicide on Tuesday, police said.

The accused had been absconding since the incident.

According to investigators, at around 6.10 p.m. on Tuesday, the Mayur Vihar Police Station received a call reporting that a man was lying in a pool of blood in a park behind the Crowne Plaza. A police team rushed to the spot, where the deceased was identified as Manish Bhati.

The cop’s service revolver was found lying beside him. According to the police, the accused constable died by suicide after shooting himself with his service weapon.

The deceased constable was posted with the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the East district at the time of the incident. Police said he is believed to have shot himself at around 6 p.m.

A crime team and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were called to the scene. The body has been taken into custody and sent to the mortuary at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Preliminary investigation into the woman’s murder had suggested that the couple had been experiencing frequent marital discord for some time and were often involved in arguments over personal issues.

According to the police, the incident took place after another altercation broke out between the couple on Sunday.

The officials said the husband and wife had left their residence together on a scooter, but the argument reportedly continued while they were travelling.

During the course of the investigation, police recovered CCTV footage that allegedly captured the couple stopping their scooter on the roadside before stepping off the vehicle.

The footage is said to show them engaging in a heated argument moments before the shooting took place.

According to sources, the CCTV footage shows the constable and his wife stopping their scooter and stepping off the vehicle. They were seen arguing when the constable took out his service pistol and shot his wife.
