The Goraya police claimed to have solved a case of attacking and injuring Makhan Singh, a Canada-based NRI, on January 26, in nearby Kotli-Khakhian village, and arrested two ‘contract-killers’ identified as Kulwant Singh, a resident of Mehatpur village, and Rajinder Kumar, alias Raju, of Hoshiarpur, under Sections 307 and 120-B of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal, Deputy Superintendent of the Police, Phillaur, said their four accomplices, Arun Kumar and Suraj Nath, both residents of Bajwara in Hoshiarpur district, Satta and Billa, both residents of Nakodar, were still at large.
The DSP said the accused shot at and injured Makhan Singh, after taking a “supari” of Rs 2.5 lakh from Jaswinder Kaur, a Vancouver-based NRI, and divorcee of the victim, to eliminate him who escaped and sustained bullet injuries.
“The police have recovered a Skoda car (PB-08AY-5000) and Rs 30,000 from the accused,” added Chahal.
Divulgng the details, the DSP said Kulwant Singh had disclosed that he made a deal for Rs 2.5 lakh with Jaswinder Kaur, who sent him Rs 1.5 lakh as advance. He gave Rs 50,000 to Arun and Suraj and Rs 50,000 to Satta and Bhola while he himself kept the remaining amount. The police have booked Jaswinder Kaur under Section 120-B of the IPC, he added.
