Lucknow, 26 May (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the health and medical education departments on Tuesday and called for the fast-tracking of health services to ensure their timely delivery to common people.

The Chief Minister called for strengthening medical colleges, nursing institutions, and super-speciality services through the use of modern technology, better human resources, and effective management.

“The objective of medical education is not merely to increase the number of institutions, but to provide the state with trained doctors, specialists, and quality healthcare workers. Modern equipment, expert faculty, and research activities should be promoted in medical institutions,” CM Yogi told the officials.

During the meeting, it was informed that 108 district hospitals, 106 specialised hospitals, 976 Community Health Centres, 3757 Primary Health Centres, and 27,668 health sub-centres are operational in the state.

In the year 2025-26, government hospitals provided 26.41 crore OPD services and 1.23 crore IPD services, while conducting 24.33 crore pathology tests. Over the last 10 years, the number of PG seats increased from 1344 to 5067, while MBBS seats rose from 5390 to 12800. Super-speciality seats also recorded an increase of nearly 165 percent.

The UP CM further said that the Ayushman Yojana is becoming the biggest support for poor and needy families and stressed the need for timely payments to hospitals to facilitate better patient services.

According to officials, 6480 hospitals are associated with the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state, and more than 96.75 lakh free treatments have been provided so far.

Emphasising the promotion of medical research and innovation, the Chief Minister said that medical institutions should be connected with research-based healthcare services.

Chief Minister directed that work on under-construction medical colleges and health institutions be expedited and said, “All projects should be completed within the stipulated timeframe so that the public can soon benefit from better healthcare facilities.”

He also instructed that payments to ambulance operators be ensured on time.

The Chief Minister further issued strict instructions regarding the quality of medicines in hospitals. Medicines with less than 3 months’ expiry should not remain in hospitals and should be replaced with fresh stock.

The Chief Minister stressed turning the TB eradication campaign into a mass movement and directed that schools, colleges, and voluntary organisations be involved.

CM Yogi further instructed officials to increase the honorarium of contractual MBBS doctors to encourage better doctors to join government services.
